The Difference between Religion and the Kingdom of God
God would not suffer the devil to do it then because the trial of His title was put on that issue by the consent of the parties. The God who answers by fire is the true God. Satan cannot display great power unless Jehovah allows it; the devil must seek permission. An example is in the book of Job, chapters 1 and 2.
After the prophets of Baal had done all they could do, there was still no fire. Elijah found the ruins of a broken-down altar and repaired it with twelve stones according to the number of the twelve tribes of Israel. He brought the bullock and the wood for the sacrifice, but the Lord would provide the fire. If we sincerely offer our hearts to God, He will by His grace kindle a holy fire in them. Elijah was no priest and was not qualified to make an offering to the Lord according to the laws of God. Elijah had the power and the Lord gave him the authority to operate as a priest at the time. Elijah had to produce evidence because he was on trial because the God who answered by fire was the true God.
Elijah addressed himself to God by prayer before the altar. He humbly asked Him to accept the offering and to testify His acceptance of it by fire. His prayer was not long but precise. He used no vain repetitions. Though he expected an answer by fire, he came near to the altar with boldness and feared not. He addressed himself to God as the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, exercising faith in the God of his ancestors. Elijah pleaded with the Lord to hear him and answer him so it would be known that He was God in Israel. Elijah said he was God’s servant. He hoped that by this miracle, the hearts of the people would turn back to God. God answered him by fire while he was speaking, but this was not all. To complete the miracle, the fire consumed the stones of the altar and the very dust, demonstrating that it was no ordinary fire.
Elijah had by the most convincing and undeniable evidence proved his claims on behalf of the God of Israel. The people as the jury gave their verdict upon the trial. They agreed that the trial was fair, Baal was found guilty of being an imposter, and his servants were sentenced to death. The case was so plain that they did not need not to go from the bar to consider their verdict or consult about it. They fell on their faces and all as one said the Lord was God, not Baal. They saw the evidence and were convinced and satisfied. They declared that day and for all eternity that Jehovah alone was God in Israel and worthy of being praised. The 450 false prophets of Baal were seized and executed according to the law in Deuteronomy 13:1–5. The people needed no proof because all Israel witnessed what had happened. Therefore, Elijah ordered the prophets to be slain immediately as the troublers of the land.
The finality of it is that religion and Satan have no power over the King and His Kingdom.
Religion is the downfall of humanity. It has been used and continues to be used by Satan to bring destruction to humanity. However, it’s not too late to change the road on which you are travelling.
